Reflections of SST Technology Ambassadors

This is one of the many opportunities (over the 4 years in SST) that you would be given to build your capacity as a leader.

In these two days, you have worked very closely with the juniors when coaching them on the ICT skills.

Share with us...

1. Some positive impacts that you have created (on others).
  • What are some observations you have that made you think you have done so successfully?

2. Every involvement creates opportunities for us to develop and hone our 10Cs* (skills & competencies).
  • What are some skills and competencies that you have applied/ used in your course of working with the juniors? Why do you say so?

*10Cs: Critical Thinking Skills; Communication Skills; Creativity; Intellectual Curiosity; Courage; Collaborative Skills; Cross Cultural Understanding; Commitment; Confidence; Citizenship & Ethics

3. What advice would you give to others who would be involved in similar programme so that they can benefit more from the participation?

  1. 1. The students have learnt to use Photobooth and Glogster and MacBook.

    2. I think I have applied Communication Skills and Collaborative Skills. I need the Communication Skills to teach them in a way that they can understand. Collaborative Skills allows me to give suggestions when the juniors are doing their work.

    3. Befriend their partners so that it is easier to communicate (for me).

  2. 1.
The students have successfully learnt how to use certain apps on the Learning Device, such as Photo Booth and Glogster.

    2.
Communication Skills, I learnt how to communicate better with my juniors when teaching them how to use the different apps.
Confidence, I had to have confidence when teaching or communicating with them.

    3.
I would advise them to have more confidence when talking to their juniors, so their juniors will feel more at ease when doing the hands on activities.

    2) Communication skills: I have to communicate with the juniors to teach them and know what they are unclear of.
    3) I would advise them to do some research about what they are going to learn beforehand.

  5. 1. I thought that the kids are more well versed in the area of ICT now that we have taught them how to use the various programs and applications. I also think that i have helped them become more confident when presenting their projects, and that all of them have learned teamwork. At the end of the day , i think that they are better friends too.
    2. I think that i have improved my critical thinking skills in the sense that the programme required me to think on my feet when the juniors asked for suggestions and help. I improved my communication skills as i had to constantly talk to them , and ask them for their opinion. I improved my creativity when suggesting ideas for their posters and video. I thought that my Collabarative skills had improved too as i had to work with the juniors to achieve their goals. Finally , i enhanced my cross cultural understanding as my juniors were of different races.
3.Give the juniors a chance to do things on their own , do not help them with everything. You also have to gain the friendship from the juniors so that they are open to you and they are more cheerful when working. Instead of giving the juniors ideas straight , try and ask them questions that will make them think. Eg. is this a good idea ? something like that. Be patient and nice to the juniors as they may need some more time to pick up and learn the software.

  6. 1. The students have learnt how to use the applications in the MacBooks such as PhotoBooth and Glogster. Also, they have learnt how to use the MacBooks better as some of them didn't use a MacBook before. The students have also learnt teamwork and communication skills which are essential.
    2. I have used my critical thinking, creativity and communication skills. I needed to think on the spot to give them ideas which were creative. Also, I needed to communicate with my juniors when teaching them the skills.
    3. They should probably be better prepared. Also, they should stay focused on their task and not get distracted.

  7. 1. The juniors from the Primary Schools in the W5 Cluster, namely, Greenridge, Pei Hwa Presbyterian, West View and Zhenghua, have learnt how to use the basic functions of MacBooks and get familiarised with them. In particular, they have learnt how to use Photo Booth and Glogster. I believe they have become more bonded as the juniors from Zhenghua Primary School were from the same class, 5Awesome, and I believe they will be better friends after this workshop. :)

    2. I used Communication Skills to communicate better with the juniors. However, I was able to communicate pretty well with the juniors as we found a common topic to talk on: Zhenghua Primary School(My Primary School). Also, I had to use Critical Thinking Skills to help the juniors to think of ideas when needed.

    3. I would advise them to not be so easily distracted or attracted to the pond. We were late quite a few times because of the juniors being distracted by the pond. Maybe, it is because the Eco-Pond in Zhenghua Primary School was not as attractive or maybe too boring for them, as compared to the one in SST. I would also advise them to be more focused and not be too bothered with SST's features as they could always explore after the workshop.

  8. 1. At the end of the workshop, I think the juniors are better at using Glogster and Photo Booth compared to before when making the digital poster. I also hope that they are more bonded and have learnt the importance of teamwork and collaboration.

    2. I have used communication and creativity skills. I needed to communicate my ideas/suggestions to the juniors and I had to be creative to quickly come up with different ideas.

    3. I would probably advise them to be more prepared before coming for the workshop e.g trying Glogster out first. Also, it would be better and more work would be done if they stayed focused and concentrated on the task at hand, especially the main point instead of other unimportant features. :)

  9. I feel that the juniors would know more about the softwares we have thought them to do (Glogster, Photo Booth)

I have applied communication, care and creativity to help the juniors. I had to tell the juniors my ideas and needed to think quickly.

I would advise them to try out these softwares for fun and also I hope they would stay focused in the tasks they need to do.

  10. 1. Some positive impacts that you have created (on others).
What are some observations you have that made you think you have done so successfully?
-I taught the juniors how to use the softwares. I think I have etched into their mind useful knowledge and skills that can be used in the future.
-The juniors could use the software without any help.

    2. Every involvement creates opportunities for us to develop and hone our 10Cs* (skills & competencies).
What are some skills and competencies that you have applied/ used in your course of working with the juniors? Why do you say so?
-I had collaborated and communicated with the juniors. I worked well with them and they could understand me easily. We also worked together as a team.

The juniors were able to get the chance to use the apple devices such as the macbook and ipad. They were able to learn how to use photo booth successfully within the first day. Besides that, they learnt how to use glogster the second day, to complete their digital poster.

I developed better critical thinking skills, communication skills and collaborative skills. Critical thinking is needed whenever we face problems, such as technical difficulties. We need to do something else in order to not make the audience whom we are presenting to wait for too long. As we were taking charge of one junior, we have to be able to articulate our speech, so that they would know what to do and also be able to understand us clearly.

    3. What advice would you give to others who would be involved in similar programme so that they can benefit more from the participation?
I would tell them to have as much fun as possible, and also teach the juniors as much thing that they know as possible, because in the process of that, we may even learn something new.
